Gabriel Caballero is a landscape architect with more than a decade of professional experience in integrating built and natural environments for residential developments, commercial spaces, sustainable leisure destinations, and the public realm. His involvement with Gardens by the Bay, a 54-hectare green oasis in the heart of Singapore, the ecological tourism development Hamilo Coast south of Manila, Philippines, and the creation of a rainforest experience in the Mandai precinct in Singapore best illustrate his design and project management capacity.

Aside from being a landscape architect, Mr. Caballero is also an independent world heritage specialist. He has published and presented research papers on cultural and natural heritage in the rapidly evolving context of Asian cities. He has been involved in the work of the 1972 UNESCO World Heritage Convention doing desk reviews for IUCN and UNESCO Philippines. He has organised or has been invited as a speaker on the topic of world heritage by heritage organisations in the last five years. Mr Caballero is also a member of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) of which, he is an expert member of the International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes (ISCCL) and the International Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICICH).

In 2017, the Philippine Association of Landscape Architects (PALA) gave recognition to Gabriel Caballero as a recipient of the GantimPALA Vanguard Award for his contributions in the protection of natural and cultural heritage areas which he integrates in his work as an active landscape architecture practitioner. Vanguard Awardees have been selected by the PALA Board of Directors based on their exceptional contribution to the advancement of the profession and of the organization’s interests.

He is currently involved in the rejuvenation of the Mandai precinct in Singapore, sensitively creating a new tourist destination set amidst protected areas of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. He integrates his knowledge of landscape architecture to the bigger work in the field of urban and rural regeneration and continues to be involved in projects that look at contributing to the environmental, social, cultural and economic sustainability of Asia.
